Dr Jason Chow

MBBS, BSc(Med), FRANZCOG, FFPMANZCA

Obstetrician & Gynaecologist (O&G) and Pain Medicine Specialist with particular expertise in Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgery.

About Dr Jason Chow

Dr Jason Chow is a dual-qualified specialist, having studied and achieved Specialist registration as both an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist (O&G), as well as a Pain Medicine Physician.

Jason is one of a very select few dual-qualified Obstetrician and Gynaecologists (O&Gs) in Australia, working routinely as both an obstetrician and gynaecologist in busy public and private hospitals, as well as offering a unique pain medicine service to women who develop chronic pelvic pain conditions as a result of maternity or surgery.

Jason performs minimally-invasive laparoscopic (“keyhole”) surgery and has completed training using the latest Da Vinci surgical robotic platform, which allows surgeons to perform very fine-movement surgery in delicate areas where there are lots of important neves, such as the pelvis.

Jason started his obstetric and gynaecology training at the Royal Hospital for Women in Randwick and has come full-circle to return to the campus as a Consultant Specialist O&G. He undertook sub-specialised laparoscopic surgery training with the SWAPS group and is the first gynaecologist to perform robotic surgery at Prince of Wales Private Hospital, and robotic pudendal nerve release surgery in Australia.

Jason ultimately undertook additional training as a pain medicine physician as he was unsatisfied with the treatment options for women with chronic pain who are largely managed with a biomedical and surgical model. He is the first gynaecologist to complete the pain medicine examination with the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FFPMANZCA) in Australia.

Jason espouses partnerships with patients and working in a multidisciplinary setting. Transforming attitudes around patients suffering from chronic pain is crucial, and Jason advocates strongly in education for patients, general practitioners and specialists.  Jason has been an invited speaker at international and national conferences.  He is a recipient of the Robert Wrigley research scholarship and is a RANZCOG training supervisor of trainee O&Gs, and teaches undergraduate and advanced gynaecologic surgical trainees.

Jason holds his first love for obstetrics.  He delivers woman-centred care, and his procedural expertise equips him for peripartum emergencies and safe delivery.
